Slurpee Love

If you've known me long you will have noticed I have a very strong opinion when it comes to slurpees. That opinion is: "I love them." This isn't just a passing insincere thought. Come over to my apartment and check out the cupboard full of slurpee collector cups. Let me expound on my slurplove. Slurpees are the official drink of summer. I try to drink more slurpees than milk and maybe even water. I've noticed I rarely get brain freezes anymore. If I do it's usually just at the start of the summer with the first few.

Maybe I'm a slurpee snob, but there are a few rules I believe in when making the most of your slurpee experience:
1. Don't mix flavors. Just realize that you can make another slurpee trip in the near future. Come back tomorrow or in a couple hours.
2. There is no daily limit. Nowhere is it written that you are limited to only one slurpee per day.
3. After you've filled your slurpee cup don't rush to check out. Let it settle. Tap the cup on the counter to help this process along. You'd be surprised how much more you can pack in there after it's already full.
4. Use a big gulp straw rather than the slurpee straws. They are green or red and a couple of feet away from the slurpee machine. The first reason for this is the diameter of the straw. You get a lot better results using a bigger straw. Secondly, let's face that spoon part at the bottom is pretty useless. Once you get down to that level in the cup it just makes continuing very difficult. Eliminate the problem before ever having to deal with it.
5. Not all slurpee flavors are created equal. The best in my opinion is the Mountain Dew flavor. I liked the slurpee long before liking the actual soft drink. There are many variations on the Mtn Dew flavor too, I haven't been disappointed yet. Second on my list is Coca-Cola. Thank goodness this one is a constant choice so you can always fall back on it in case the others are too weird. Most anything blue is good. A lot of people like the pina colada. It's not bad but I would never pick over the others above it on my list. Unfortunately there are a lot of really over the top flavors. Do a taste test before you fill your cup when trying new flavors.

I'll stop there with the rules. One more thing on flavors, classic soft drink flavors usually turn out the best. I've had a sprite slurpee that was pretty good but I rarely see it anymore. I've never seen a Dr. Pepper slurpee. It's the current slurpee flavor that I dream about.

By the way there is a website now, slurpee.com. I'm a member, no surprises there. Basically you can enter codes from your cups to be able to download wallpaper for your computer or iphone. yay.... However, the greatest thing about this website is the brainfreeze lab. You can upload a picture of yourself or whoever. It looks really creepy because the picture is animated, the eyes follow your mouse and occasionally blink. It's a bit zombie like. Hey do you want to go get a slurpee now? Let's go.

  2. I've tried to go on the Slurpee website, but the "flavors" section won't work. I'm so bummed. So I can't even look through the menu and see what I would like if I were to get one. I don't think I'm brave enough just to walk in and try one without knowing what they have. What if all they have is an awful blue raspberry flavor, and then I feel like I got a liquid "Blow-Pop" that makes me want to puke?! No, no. I think I'll wait until the flavor section of the website is working again before I go get one.
