Unemployment = $

So I've heard stories of how people get paid by the government when they get laid off.

I was wondering if as a recent college graduate I could go straight to this? So naturally this process starts by googleing "tricking the government into paying me." That came up with nothing so I googled more seriously "going on unemployment after college graduation." More results came up but nothing on how to actually achieve a monthly salary for doing nothing.
